Hey guys,

This being my first blog, I wanted to catch people up on what I have been
up too. I kinda disappeared after last outdoor season, due to an injury, but I am up and running now! I graduated in the Spring and now I am training in Austin with my college teammate Leonel Manzano. I was blessed with the opportunity to run for Nike and continue my running career, which has been incredible thus far. (Getting amazing Nike gear isn’t bad either). I am still settling into life as a professional runner, but each day goes more smoothly than the last!

The idea that this “job” is like no other I will ever work took me a while to wrap my head around. I don't have to wear the stuffy clothes that a traditional job has and I have no boss. Some days I simply can’t find things to do to pass the time. This is an unexpected change from college, where it seemed every second of every day was allotted for some purpose or another.

This can be a good thing or bad thing.

As many of you guys and gals are probably wondering, "what would you say
that I do here?"  Well it was hard at first, I spent a lot of time walking
around Wal-mart buying worthless stuff like egg slicers for hard boiled eggs and sno-cone/blender
combos for twenty bucks and Home Depot (I started a table top, that has
taken around 2 months to build, its still not done). I even
enrolled into a real estate class to become a licensed salesman.

I soon realized that along with the running side of things I need to make
sure that I was doing everything else right too (training room, stretching,
drills, sleep, etc). Unlike college, I do not have class or study groups to
be attending, but I need to stay busy with a few hobbies and make sure that
I am taking care of my body. Overall, I realize that everything has been
provided for me to get the job done, so I’m working to do exactly that. Get the job done!

On the lighter side of things I would like to give a sneak preview on what
I want to do with the site. I recently got a handheld video camera and hope to capture some of my days of running/training, my planned trip to Mexico, and overall racing in the US/abroad. Also, I’ve joined twitter…(follow jherndotcom)!

I hope this website will keep y’all updated and hopefully provide entertainment, at least to some of you. I appreciate all of you who have taken an active interest in my career.

Sincerely,

J Hern
